Dangerous storms may cause outages this weekend

Dangerous severe weather is predicted for our area this weekend, particularly for Saturday afternoon and evening. Remember it's wise to have multiple, reliable ways of getting weather alerts. Weather apps are great, but the NOAA Weather Radios work even when cell towers are down and/or the power is out. CEC is prepared to respond 24/7 in the event of power outages. If we experience severe damage to our electric distribution system, restoration times could take longer but you can rest assure our crews will be working as safely and quickly as possible to restore service. Please remind others to ALWAYS stay far away from downed power lines and also stay away from downed trees that could have power lines intertwined and are not easily seen. Safety is our first priority and that goes for our employees, our CEC members and the public at large. Stay weather aware this weekend and if you experience a power outage, or see a hazard relating to any part of our system, please call 800-239-1193 or use the free CEC app to report it. We say this all the time, but please do NOT use social media to report a power outage or hazard. Thank you.

2025 CEC Virtual Annual Meeting Webcast will be LIVE

The 2025 CEC Virtual Annual Meeting Webcast will take place on Thursday, April 3 at 3 PM right here on the CEC website! Annual meeting ballot packets have been mailed to all CEC members with active electric accounts. Each packet contains the candidates’ information and a voting ballot. The deadline to vote by mail or online is April 1. All members who vote in this year’s trustee election will receive a $10 bill credit and be entered for a chance to win up to $2,500 worth of bill credits! Please remember that we will NOT accept ballots at any CEC office.

The virtual format enables more CEC members to participate in the annual meeting through mail-in or online voting and hear up-to-date information about the cooperative from the comfort of their homes or elsewhere. At the in-person annual meetings only 5%-7% of members voted for their board representatives, in contrast, voting participation with the virtual format is between 22%-28%. That’s a big difference and after all, cooperatives are rooted in the principle of democratic member control, and we want to make it as easy as possible for our members to make their voices heard.

During this year’s webcast, we’ll highlight our progress during 2024, discuss the challenges facing our industry, share financial reports and provide the latest information on Buzz Broadband. If you’re unable to watch the live webcast, a recording of the meeting will be available on our website, and the CEC Annual Report will be published in the April issue of the Alabama Living magazine.
