Hurricane Isaias will impact the CEC service area soon. We are prepared and officially working in storm response mode as we await the landfall and track inland of this dangerous Category 3 hurricane, which is already beginning to impact our area with its outer rain bands. We expect the outages to begin late this afternoon. Crews will continue to make repairs until conditions become unsafe to do so. In addition, assisting mutual aid crews are in designated staging areas outside of the storm’s path, and they will be ready to assist CEC with restoration efforts starting tomorrow morning. We have no way of knowing how devastating the impact could be from this hurricane, but members should be prepared to potentially be without power for days, rather than hours.
MEMBERS WITH MEDICAL CONDITIONS THAT RELY ON ELECTRICITY – Anyone with a medical condition or equipment that depends on electricity should have alternate arrangements in place now.
REPORT POWER OUTAGES – CEC members should call 800-239-1193, text OUT to that same number, or use the free CEC app for mobile devices. Please do not use social media to report outages or downed power lines.
SAFETY REMINDER – CEC officials remind people to always stay far away from downed or sagging power lines. All downed power lines should be treated as if they are energized and potentially deadly. Anyone who sees a downed power line should report it by calling 800-239-1193.
USE OF GENERATORS – ALWAYS follow the manufaturer’s guidelines for operating a portable generator. Improper use of a generator can cause dangereous back-feeding that can be deadly to line workers and others in certain situations.
WE’RE IN THIS TOGETHER – CEC truly appreciates our members and we would like to request your patience and understanding in advance. Please be safe.
