Misprint in April edition of Alabama Living – Water Heaters are $250

Please note that the Spring into Energy Efficiency article in the April edition of Alabama Living magazine, pages 6-7, contains an unfortunate misprint. CEC sells water heaters at a discounted price to its members for $250. The amount that was printed ($150) is incorrect. Anyone needing to purchase a water heater from CEC will pay the correct price of $250. We apologize for any confusion. Thank you.

Covington Electric Cooperative recently sponsored juniors from each high school it serves to attend the 2025 Montgomery Youth Tour on March 11-13. Students were selected last fall through an essay competition held at their schools. The CEC Youth Tour delegates joined approximately 130 students from across the state at the Montgomery Youth Tour which included tours of the Alabama State Capitol, the Legacy Museum, Alabama Department of Archives and History, and the Alabama State House. The trip also included team-building activities with motivational speaker Craig Hillier and a visit with former congresswoman Martha Roby on the last day.

CEC’s Montgomery Youth Tour participants competed on March 20, for four slots on the National Rural Electric Youth Tour in Washington, D.C., which will take place in June. The competition included a test on co-op history and facts, as well as an interview. Kalie Davis of Kinston, Briley Griffin, Kylie Thomasson and Kayla Hughes of Pleasant Home were selected as CEC’s 2025 Washington Youth Tour delegates. William Wyrosdick of Kinston was chosen as the first alternate and Rebecca Rose Guilford of Pleasant Home was chosen as the second alternate. “Students gain valuable leadership skills and insight from attending Youth Tour,” says Katherine Silva, CEC’s communication specialist. “We notice the positive impact this program has on attendees and their confidence. As a former Youth Tour student, seeing CEC continue to support this great program for the students in our service area brings me great joy,” she added.

The 2025 Washington Youth Tour winners are Kalie Davis (Kinston), Kylie Thomasson (Pleasant Home), Briley Griffin (Pleasant Home), and Kayla Hughes (Pleasant Home). The first alternate is William Wyrosdick (Kinston), and the second alternate is Rebecca Rose Guilford (Pleasant Home).

The purpose of the Youth Tour is to inform young people about how cooperatives benefit their members, learn about government and history, enhance leadership skills, and meet other young people from across the state and nation while visiting historical sites and landmarks.
