CEC is continuing to monitor weather updates as Hurricane Isaias is expected to intensify as it makes its way toward the northern central Gulf Coast. Forecasters are predicting dangerous winds, heavy rain (particularly on the east side of the storm’s center), isolated tornadoes and storm surge in coastal areas. It is currently projected to make landfall late Friday or early Saturday somewhere between Ocean Springs, Miss., and Panama City Beach, Fla.
The CEC service territory is included in the Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch areas. Our crews are on 24-hour standby in preparation for impacts from this storm. In addition, assisting crews are en route to designated staging areas and will be ready to assist CEC with restoration efforts following the storm.
Widespread power outages are likely and could possibly last days, rather than hours. These major storms can be unpredictable, and we encourage all members to prepare now for the possibility of extended power outages. Charge mobile devices, gather emergency supplies, and make plans for your household in advance. Now is the time to act.
IMPORTANT! – Anyone with a medical condition or equipment that depends on electricity should make alternate arrangements now and have a backup plan in place should an extended outage occur.
CEC crews and those assisting our co-op will go to work immediately to restore power as quickly and safely as possible, as soon as conditions are safe to start the restoration process.
To report power outages, CEC members should call 800-239-1193, text OUT to that same number, or use the free CEC app for mobile devices. Please do not use social media to report outages or downed power lines.
CEC officials remind people to always stay far away from downed or sagging power lines. All downed power lines should be treated as if they are energized and potentially deadly. Anyone who sees a downed power line should report it by calling 800-239-1193 or 911.
CEC will continue provide updates as necessary.
