CEC is using this page as an additional communication resource to share updates related to the impact of Hurricane Isaias on our electric distribution system and our strategic restoration process. Updates will also be shared via our Facebook page.
Oct. 10, 2026 (12:42 p.m.) — Crews are making progress and have restored power to more than 1,000 CEC members at this time. Due to such widespread damage across our entire service area, and preparing our mutal aid crews as they arrive onsite to assist with power restoration efforts in a region they’ve never been to, it is taking some time to make signficant headway in restoring power. However, we expect this process to speed up significantly throughout the afternoon and will provide a video briefing from our CEO that will be shared via Facebook and information from that briefing will be shared here on our website as well. Again, we ask for your patience and understanding. Thank you.
Oct. 10, 2026 (8:43 a.m.) — CEC’s Strategic Process of Power Restoration is Underway – Line crews, staking personnel, and others are inspecting the CEC electric system to determine the full extent of damage. This assessment is critical in helping to identify what equipment, materials, and personnel are needed for restoration and in what areas. We know that we have broken poles, downed trees and power lines, and other damaged equipment. County and state employees are working to clear roadways in affected areas. Transmission lines and substations must be fully operational for electric distributions systems to provide power. If any repairs are needed at these facilities, this work must completed first before power can flow to CEC’s distribution circuits. Once major infrastructure is restored, crews must focus on repairing primary three-phase distribution lines first because these lines feed our single phase lines and individual taps to homes and some businesses. The final step involves repairing individual service lines and meters serving single homes or businesses that may still be without power after larger repairs have been completed. CEC sincerely appreciates the patience and support of our members during this major weather event. Our employees and mutual aid crews are still assessing damage and some are already making repairs in some areas with minimal damage. Remember, never approach a downed power line and always assume it is energized. If you see a downed line, stay away and report it immediately by calling 800-239-1193 or use the free CEC app.
Oct. 10, 2026 (5:50 a.m.) — As of 5:39 a.m., we have 17,379 of 25,199 meters without power on our system. Crews will be out at dawn this morning to assess damage and begin the difficult task of clearing downed trees and debris to make repairs to our heavily damaged infrastructure. We will share restoration updates throughout the day via our website and social media channels. Please STAY FAR AWAY FROM DOWNED TREES AND POWER LINES. Thank you.
Oct. 9, 2026 (9:10 p.m.) — We have roughly 50 percent of the CEC system without power at this time. That’s about 12,500 members and we expect more before Hurricane Isaias clears our area later tonight. This will be our last post for the evening. You can follow our outage numbers using the Outage Viewer on the CEC website at https://outage.cov-elect.com. This is how it currently looks and it ain’t pretty. We’re getting hit hard. Stay safe.
