Prepare Now if You Depend on Electricity for Medical Needs

As Hurricane Isaias continues its track toward the Gulf Coast, CEC encourages members who rely on electricity for medical equipment or health-related needs to make alternate arrangements now in case of extended power outages.

While CEC crews are preparing for the storm and additional line crews are being staged to assist with restoration efforts, severe weather can cause power outages that could possibly last for days. Individuals who depend on oxygen concentrators, ventilators, refrigerated medications, motorized medical devices, or other electrically powered equipment should have a backup plan in place now before the storm arrives.

That plan may include relocating to a location with reliable backup power, ensuring batteries are fully charged, securing a generator if available, or making arrangements with family, friends, healthcare providers, or emergency shelters. Waiting until power is lost can make it much more difficult to safely address medical needs.

CEC’s crews will work as quickly and safely as possible to restore service following the storm, but restoration times can vary depending on conditions and the extent of damage. Preparing now can help protect your health and provide peace of mind during severe weather.

If you or a loved one depend on electricity for medical needs, don’t wait. Make your emergency plans today.
