IMPORTANT NOTICE:

H2O Water Heater Participants: PowerSouth has initiated a peak shaving event for CEC members with load control devices on their water heaters. It will take place on Feb. 1 from 6:30 AM – 8:30 AM. Members who signed up to participate in the H2O program received a discounted water heater at the time of purchase and understand the benefit of this program which is to help shave power consumption during high peak demand periods. The H2O participants should have adequate hot water stored in their tanks for normal usage during this time. We appreciate the cooperation of our H2O participants during this peak shaving event. Thank you.

CEC holds pop-up birthday party to commemorate actual day of incorporation

CEC held two pop-op birthday parties at each of its offices (Sanford and Enterprise) on Aug. 2 to commemorate it’s official day its official day of incorporation back in 1944. The organization of CEC dramatically changed rural life in south Alabama forever. It’s hard to imagine how long it would have taken the investor owned utilities to expand into rural areas because there was no profit in such a massive endeavor. Who knows where we would be today without President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal that provided the opportunity for country folks to come together and create electric cooperatives to provide power to themselves and their neighbors when no one else would. CEC is part of a proud heritage that is the remarkable rural electrification of America beginning in the 1930s.

We want to thank our members that stopped by during the little parties to say hi and enjoy a tasty cookie with some of our employees. We also want to the thank the Andalusia Chamber of Commerce and their board members in attendance for helping us spotlight this very important day in our co-op’s history.

We’re not done celebrating and we’re saving the best for last. CEC will be hosting our first annual Member Appreciation Days in late October with food, information booths, door prizes and more. Look for additional details in upcoming issues of Alabama Living.
